Olumide Akpata is a Senior Partner and the Head of the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group at Templars, a leading commercial law firm in Nigeria. On 30 July 2020, he was duly elected as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). With almost three decades of experience advising clients on various aspects of Nigerian Corporate and Commercial Law, Olumide is recognised for advising local and international corporations on marketing leading transactions, including cross-border transactions in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.
His experience spans several core areas of commercial law and practice, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, employment, immigration, governance and anti-corruption and regulatory compliance amongst others. He has been recognised as a leading lawyer by several global legal directories, including International Financial Law Review (IFLR) 1000, Legal 500 and Chambers
Global.
Olumide has been engaged as consultant and worked closely with the office of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), Attorney-General of the Federation, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, Bureau of Public Procurement, and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) amongst several others.
He is the erstwhile Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law and via this platform, he championed the development of business law and policy in Nigeria via several innovative initiatives, including scholarships and several extensive Continuous Legal Education (CLE) training for young lawyers. He remains an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association. Olumide was most recently nominated as a pioneer member of the steering group of the United Nations Nigerian Humanitarian Fund – Private Sector Initiative alongside other leaders of the Nigerian business community.
